Another great mushroom event this year!
The weather turned out to be perfect for the Driftwood Saloons Annual Mushroom Fest. 125 people listened as John Traister gave the presentation and shared his knowledge on fungi. Jim Moser lead the crowd on the hunt to find wild mushrooms. After the walk it was back to the Saloon where Chris Cicciarelli assisted John and Jim on identifying the different types of mushrooms collected and answer any questions the attendees had. During the identification the cooks from the Saloon cooked up some shrimp of the woods, chicken of the woods and hen of the woods for everyone to sample. There were 5 soups entered in the Mushroom Soup contest. They were all so delicious! Congratulations to the 1st place winner Regan from Kittanning, PA and 2nd place went to BilliJo from Milesburg, PA.
Bill Russell’s Field Guide to Wild Mushrooms of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic was given out as the door prize. Bill's book can be purchased by going to brmushrooms.com. There you will also find a lot of information on mushroom identification.
