LaVerta J. “Sis” Miller

LaVerta J. “Sis” Miller, age 57, of Gardeau, Cameron County, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Sunday, May 1, 2022, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born November 21, 1964, in Port Allegany to the late Clint Bundy and Irma Colegrove Lanphere. She graduated from Port Allegany High School, and later married John “Jack” Miller on November 10, 1988, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Emporium, and together they spent 33 happy years.

Sis was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother, and a supporter of a number of charities and organizations. As a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, she was on the altar guild and involved with many aspects of church operations. She spent years crocheting blankets for babies in local Neonatal Intensive Care Units, recycled old cards to send holiday greetings to seniors in area nursing homes, and organized gift donations for Operation Christmas Child. She always supported the local SPCA and the “Angel Tree” project that provided Christmas gifts for area children. She was a lifelong blood donor, making 94 donations totaling over 10 gallons throughout many years of donations. She donated to many causes and supported many organizations during her life.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Gardeau, children, Caitlin Miller, of Gardeau; Benjamin Miller, of Emporium; and Amanda (Joe) Jones, of Emporium; and six grandchildren who lovingly called her Oma and will miss her warm hugs and thoughtful gifts: Emma, Kaydence, Reyn, Aiden, Kira, and Malcolm. She is also survived by three siblings, Samantha (Brian) Mayle, of Ellwood City; June (Steve) Reynolds, of Wrights; and Terry (Brenda) Bundy, of Port Allegany; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; and her beloved cat, Riley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alan Bundy.

Burial Service with Communion will take place on Monday, May 16, at 11 a.m., at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 144 West Fourth Street in Emporium, officiated by Father Matthew Ryan. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Portage Cemetery, Gardeau, PA, at a later date.

Memorials can be made to the Cameron County SPCA, 678 South Mountain Road, Emporium, PA.
