Ellen Louise (Mason) Snyder, 98, previously of Williamsport, was welcomed into God’s arms on Jan. 31, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William Benjamin Snyder, on Jan. 24, 2008. Ellen was born on July 9, 1922, the youngest daughter of J. Wright Mason and Nancy Spence Mason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Anson Mason, and sisters, Zelia Jensen and Rebecca Johnson.
Ellen’s early years were spent growing up on the family farm, Pine Grove Dairy, in Cameron County. After graduation from Emporium High School, she was hired to work in the advertising department at the Sylvania plant. She met Bill, her husband, before he enlisted in the Army, and shortly after he returned from being a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II, they married and moved to Williamsport. Together they enjoyed camping while traveling around the U.S. and Canada. They especially enjoyed spending time with family at The Camp, adjacent to her childhood farm in Driftwood.
There is so much to say about a lifetime of nearly 99 years, but to sum it up we are truly blessed to have had this kind woman in our lives.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Tom) Vojtasek and Billie (Jeff) Stone both of Poinciana, Fla. She was known as Mamie to her six grandchildren: Jeffry Stone (Theresa), Benjamin Stone (Beth), Elizabeth Flite (Tim), Eric, Ellen and Erin; and her 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held this summer in Pennsylvania. In keeping with her wishes her body has been donated to the Anatomical Board of Florida for use in medical education programs.
