Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run Sets Records

  Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run Sets Records

 Three course records and beautiful weather drew a record number of competitors for the fifth year of the Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run on Saturday October 21. More than 80 enjoyed a day in the PA Wilds exploring the West Creek Rails Trail, and Elk State Forest traversing pipeline cuts and DCNR trails. More than two-thirds of the participants were from outside of the region.

Harrisburg runner Derek Newcomer broke his own 10k record finishing in 1 hour 7 minutes. Angelia Clarke from Lakeview New York was the first woman to cross the finish line in a time of 1 hour 33 minutes. The husband and wife team of Tom and Karen Hutton were the first from Cameron County to finish, taking home the Caldwell Cup.

A runner from Dubois took home first place in the 25k. Sean Craig finished with a time of 2 hours 19 minutes. The first female to finish was Candice Browning from Buffalo with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes. Caldwell Cup winners were Stephen Winston and Eugenia Clark.

This year the 50k designated as the state championship race for the Road Runners Club of America. Joshua Gorman from St Marys broke his own mark and set a new record of 4 hours 35 minutes. The 50k women state champion is Doreen Chaffee from Wellsville New York. Chaffee crossed the finish line in 5 hours 34 minutes, setting a new record. Saul Solveson from Shippen Township took home the Caldwell Cup.

Taking home the master championship for those between the ages of 40 and 49 was Marshall Pope from Tobyhanna in 8 hours 31 minutes. The Grand Masters champion for those between the ages of 50 and 59 is Charles Ellis from Scottdale finishing in 7 hours and 18 minutes, while Michael Ball took home the Senior Grand Masters for those over the age of 60 with a time of 7 hours 31 minutes.
