Richard D. Losey, Sr.


 AUSTIN- Richard D. Losey, 82, formerly of Austin, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2017) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. Born October 12, 1934, in Austin, he was a son of John and Grace Brooks Losey. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married Mary Ann McElwee, who died Feb. 6, 2017. They were married 63 years.

Richard was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Austin High School. He was a truck driver with Emporium Contractors for many years before his retirement. Mr. Losey was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Austin, volunteered with the Austin Food Bank, was a member of the coffee club at Big Mike’s Dairy Dine, and loved working in his yard and gardening. Richard was willing to lend a hand to whomever needed it, and greeted everyone with a smile and twinkle in his blue eyes.

Surviving are a daughter, Gayle E. (Leslie) Richner of Port Allegany; two sons, Gary (Gina) Losey of Baltimore, MD, Richard D. Losey, Jr. of Shinglehouse; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Pat) Losey of Florida; a sister, Sarah Jean Simpson of Weatherly, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Ann, a brother, John Losey; and a sister, Marigold Phenicie.

Friends were received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 14, 2017) with Rev. James Campbell, pastor of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery, Port Allegany.

A scriptural wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
