Rotary News


Emporium Rotary members welcomed Applachian Art Studio owner and Ridgway Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous organizer, Liz Boni as guest speaker during their recent luncheon meeting.

 Boni and her husband, Rick, started the annual festival in 2000 with just over 30 chainsaw carvers participating. This year’s event runs March 11-18 and will feature more than 240 artists/carvers from the U. S., Canada, Germany, Japan, Argentina and numerous other countries.

 Last year’s event attracted over 45,000 vistors, wo contributed nearly $1.5 million to the local economy In addition to chainsaw carvings,, Applalacian Art Studio features paintings, pottery, prints and primitive artwork. The Boni’s also operate Appalachian Arts and Education, Inc., a non-profit entity, which develops programs for students, adults and seniors that advocate the importance of the arts in education and in the community.
