April 1st, 2017 Largest downriver paddling event in Pennsylvania!

Cameron County Canoe &  Kayak Classic

Test your strength and racing know-how as you course down one of the largest downriver paddling events in the state!

Named 2014 PA Wilds Event of the Year!

April 1st, 2017 Largest downriver paddling event in Pennsylvania!

"Cameron County - Clean, Fresh, and Beautiful"

Each year the Cameron County Canoe and Kayak Classic committee selects a new theme.
This year, the theme is "Cameron County - Clean, Fresh, and Beautiful."

We are excited to share with you such a significant event in one of the most beautiful areas of Pennsylvania. The scenic and challenging course is a 12-mile stretch of the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek which runs from the Emporium Country Club to the town of Driftwood. It is mostly flat with some class one white water and a few whirlpools. Water levels have a drastic effect on the difficulty of the course.

The 2017 race awards will be handmade paddle plaques which will be given to participants over a wide array of classes. The award ceremony and dinner is held at the Emporium Firehall.

A note from Director Randy Bailey

Hello everyone,   Welcome to the 2017 edition Of Cameron County’s Canoe and Kayak Classic. I am a bit behind getting everything together. We were having some issues with our web blog. I need to thank Chris Luckenbill for helping me get it figured out and also many other issues over the past 15 or so years. Has it been that long ? At this point I do not have a whole lot of changes to report. If you have been with us in the past you know the Gig. I need to still confirm that all will be in place the same as last year.

We will not have available to us this year an alternate venue as the Lake at Sinn State Park is undergoing a dredging project. If we find ourselves in an extreme situation (No water to paddle downstream) I may just set up a small loop course at the start area. practice your buoy turns!!. And the other extreme, Flood stage we may opt to the following weekend. Lets be hopeful for a nice day and good water level.

I have paddled the course and for once I have no major issues to address in the river there are a few branches that I need to cut but for the most part the river is open. I will update on a regular basis now up to the event date with particulars. Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing everyone back and new faces as well come April 1. Randy
