Melvin C. Dillen


Melvin C. Dillen, age 76, of Emporium, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan House in Wexford, PA Friday evening, September 2, following a short illness.

Born April 4, 1940 in Utahville, PA, he was the son of Raymond C. and Mabel I. Semple Dillen. He graduated from BCI High School, Coalport, in 1958. He served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood, TX. Melvin was employed at Penn Vend in Emporium for many years, retiring in 2002. He was a longtime member of the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department, loyal member of the Emporium Fire Police and was a volunteer EMT for the Emporium Ambulance Association for many years. He was a member of the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, Cameron County VFW and the American Legion Post #194. Melvin loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener and hunter, but his true passion was fishing. He also was a huge fan of the Pirates and Steelers.

He was a kind man, proud of his home and family, a storyteller with a quick wit and sense of humor. 

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 28 years; two sons: Jamie (Dana), Charlotte, NC, and Chuck (Val), Eagle River, AK;
 two granddaughters: Lauren Elizabeth Haley, Seven Fields, PA and Randi Moate, Emporium; a grandson Tygue, AK; 
two brothers: Ellis (Blairetta) Dillen, Chardon, OH and David (Nanci) Dillen, Mooresville, NC and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Alvin, Norman and William.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
 Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home on Wednesday (September 7, 2016) at 10:00 AM with Rev. Joseph Short, Pastor, First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, Pennsylvania

Memorials may be made to the Emporium Fire Department
