Joshua Zucal Named 2024 PA Wilds Outstanding Leader Champion Award Recipient

PA Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau 

Joshua Zucal was named the 2024 PA Wilds Outstanding Leader Champion Award recipient.

 The Outstanding Leader Award honors a person, organization, business or elected official that has used their platform to advocate for outdoor recreation economic growth in the PA Wilds to create jobs, diversify local economies, inspire stewardship and improve quality of life. 

Zucal is in his first year as a Cameron County Commissioner, and prior to being elected he served as the Marketing Director for the county. Some of his efforts included the Look Up Cameron County campaign, encouraging travelers to view the stars in Cameron County, and he is actively developing a location near Emporium as a Dark Sky viewing area.

 Zucal has also worked to improve and designate gravel roads as biking opportunities in Cameron County. As an entrepreneur, Zucal and his wife also run two businesses and contribute to the Cameron County economy.

Debra K. Debbie Uplinger

 

Debra K. Debbie Uplinger, 63, of Emporium, PA passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Tuesday afternoon (August 27, 2024). She was born January 30, 1961 in St. Marys, PA a daughter of the late Guy and Dorothy M. Miller Uplinger.

Debbie graduated from Cameron Country High School. She worked at Motor Coil for a brief time and then at Olivett's where she loved talking to everyone. She also worked cleaning UPMC Cole Emporium office. Debbie loved being with family, especially the children.

She is survived by three sisters, Nevelda Henry, Renovo; Dorothy Logue (Chauncey) and Connie Cummings both of Emporium as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ethel Polinick and Brenda Uplinger.

No visitation and services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Memorial Contributions may be made to Cameron County SPCA, 678 South Mountain Rd., Emporium, PA 15834 or to the Cameron County Ambulance Service, 299 E. Second St., Emporium, PA 15834
