Cameron County Farmers Market
The opening of the market is fast approaching (first market day is on May 13th) and our growers have been hard at work prepping their gardens and planting their seeds!
We are delighted to be welcoming Mike Thompson back this year, a local grower who manages to produce an abundance of beautiful vegetables from his back (and front!) yard garden plot in downtown Emporium.
Mike is a farmer at heart and takes great pride and enjoyment from nurturing his many plants from seeds to harvest. He likes to grow many different varieties and will be offering several types of tomatoes, including Amish gold slicers, Romas, plum regal and openers. If you are looking for peppers he will have them in all the colors: greens, reds and yellows. He has also been busy planting his beets, snap peas, spinach, radish, lettuce and onions already so hopes to have them available for sale early in the market season.
Mike also has a plot of land outside of town where he grows the bigger stuff, specializing in an assortment of squashes. If you love acorn and butternut squash then Mike is your man!
Mike loves his time in the garden and sums it up nicely with “If you work at what you like, you don’t work a day in your life!” Words to live by!
