Neidra Yvonne Hammersley (Miller)

Neidra Yvonne Hammersley (Miller) passed away on January 19, 2023, at 89 years old. She was born on October 23, 1933, in Indianapolis, to Maud and Rella Miller. She was raised on the South Side of Indianapolis with her sister Nancy Jenke (Miller) and graduated from Southport High School in 1951. Neidra was active in many social clubs. She was a charter member of the Greenwood Moose Lodge, in her church’s choir, a senior participant in Beta Sigma Phi, a founding representative of The Hardegan Street Bunch, and an active socialite of the Red Hat Society. She met her soul mate, Don Hammersley, in the USO at Fort Benjamin Harrison. The couple married on May 6, 1956. They bought a home in Greenwood where they raised their 2 children and resided their entire lives. Don and Neidra enjoyed traveling. Their favorite destinations included Don´s hometown of Emporium Pennsylvania, Walt Disney World, and Florida Beaches. The couple was known for their lavish modes of transportation including the yellow boat, convertible, and multiple family vans. Neidra was incredibly creative. Her hobbies included planning parties, crafting, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and video recording every adventure. Early on, she showcased her design skills as an employee of the Perry Post.

Neidra is survived by her two children, Rick (Linda) Hammersley and Lynne (Matt Itce) Grimm; her five grandchildren, Josh (Leah) Hammersley, Amanda (Jim Sindric) Hammersley, Ashley (Bryant) Moorehouse, Brittany (Chris) Johnson, Ryan (Taylor) Grimm; as well as her 10 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Singleton & St. Pierre Funeral Home, 7602 Madison Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227, from 11a – 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
