This month is National Diabetes Awareness Month with the focus this year on prediabetes and prevention. Former, Lion’s Club Diabetes Coordinator of PA, Linda Lupro, spoke on the subject at the Rotary luncheon meeting November 2nd Prediabetes is a serious health condition that puts you at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Managing prediabetes includes exercise, losing weight, choosing healthier foods and drinks, seeking support of your doctor, and staying up to date on vaccinations, including COVID-19. Diabetes is a disease of epic proportion with 31 million people in this part of the world with the disease. One in 11 adults globally have diabetes and the World Health Organization says it is the eighth leading cause of death in the United States.
