Land projects save 13,300 acres across Pennsylvania By Marcus Schneck | mschneck@pennlive.com

About 13,300 acres of open space and natural areas across Pennsylvania will be protected through $17 million in grants awarded to 42 projects, according to a recent announcement from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The money from the Keystone Recreation, Parks and Conservation Fund will flow into the following area projects:

Cameron County - $115,250 to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to buy about 66 acres in Grove Township for an addition to the Elk State Forest.

Potter County - $185,700 to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to buy about 90 acres in Summit Township for an addition to the Susquehannock State Forest.

Warren County - $450,000 to Foundation for Sustainable Forests toward the acquisition of approximately 155 acres in Southwest Township for watershed protection and passive recreation, and the protection of about 285 acres in Southwest Township in the form of a land donation.
