James J. Horvath


James J. Horvath, 82, of 596 Rich Valley Road, Emporium, PA died at UPMC Cole, Coudersport, PA on Friday morning (July 10, 2020) following a brief illness. He was born July 26, 1937 in Emporium, PA, a son of the late Stephen G. and Mary Hertz Horvath.

Jim graduated from Cameron County High School, class of 1955 after which he served in the United States Marine Corp. He then attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964. While at Lycoming, he participated on the football team and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity where he gained lifelong friendships that he treasured to this day. He retired from Airco Carbon Company in St. Marys where he worked for many years. He was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Moose and the Emporium Country Club.

Jim is survived by two sisters, Rosalie Ives, and Judy Horvath, Emporium; his beloved nieces, Jacqueline (Bill) Leonard and Terri (Tim) Horn; great nieces and nephews: Alyson, Anna, Stephen and Lauren Leonard; Erik and Kelly Horn, all of Collegeville, PA.

Jim was an avid golfer, enjoyed being outside and visiting with his buddies at the Moose Club. Like clockwork, he could always be counted on for Sunday evening phone calls to his nieces and their families. He was a kind and gentle soul who was dearly loved and will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate to know him.

There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Friday (July 17, 2020) at 10:30 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.

Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA where a Military Service will be held by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 E. 4th Street, Emporium, PA 15834, the Cameron County Ambulance Service, 299 E. Second St., Emporium, PA 15834 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
