Don Bickford, Director of Cameron County Outdoor Activities (COYA), was guest speaker at the Rotary luncheon meeting November 5th. COYA was started with an endowment from the Ron Andrews family. COYA provides Cameron County and area youth the opportunity and education to become aware of and comfortable with an outdoor lifestyle, focusing on the benefits this will provide to their everyday lives and personal growth.
Tuesday’s topic was the Potter County Junior Conservation School. COYA sponsored 3 local students this year to attend the one week summer school in conservation education (soil, water, forests, fields, fish, wildlife and related outdoor activities). Over 25 students ages 13-15 from around the area attend the coed school sponsored by Black Forest Conservation District.
