Cameron County Businesses Brings Home Gold
What began as a hobby is putting Emporium on the foodie must visit list. Dave Smith from Pizza Palace Plus not only has bragging rights to the “Best Pizza in America”, voted one of the best places to eat by snowmobilers in Pennsylvania but has now taken his hobby of raising bees to the level of best wildflower honey in the world according to the Good Food Award announced earlier this year.
The awards line the walls at the entrance of Pizza Palace Plus. What many patrons do not realize is that Smith has replaced sugar in his sauce and dough with sweet sticky honey. Palace Apiaries hives can be found across Cameron County and within a few miles of the borders of the county. While his focus is on raising bees and selling them to bee keepers, he sells the honey at Pizza Palace Plus and the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce & Artisan Center.
The 2018 Good Food Awards judged honey from around the world. Smith’s Pennsylvania Wildflower Honey impressed the judges. Good Food Awards distinguish value added food and beverage products in fifteen categories. More than 2000 entries submitted.
