Anna Kathryn Mehalow



Anna Kathryn Mehalow, age 99, formerly of Laurelwood Drive, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Guy and Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.

Born December 23, 1915 in Renovo, she was the daughter of William and Priscilla McAlee Gilmartin. On June 27, 1945 in St. Joseph’s Church, Renovo she married Joseph Mehalow who died November 11, 1983.

A resident of Emporium since 1962, she was a 1933 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Renovo, and in 1937 graduated from State Teachers College at Lock Haven, now Lock Haven University. She was employed as a teacher by the Renovo School District for 6 years and St. Joseph’s in Renovo for 4 years. After relocating to Emporium, she was employed by the Cameron County School District from 1963 until retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Mehalow was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium and was an 80 year member of the CD of A. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Thursday 500 Club and the Tuesday Night Rummy Club.

Survivors include: three sons, William J. Mehalow (Tish) of Smithburg, Maryland; John T. Mehalow and Joseph E. Mehalow both of Emporium; one daughter, Cecilia Mehalow of Emporium; and one granddaughter, Adrienne Mehalow of Bar Harbor, Maine.

There will be no visitation hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 in St. Mark Church, Emporium, with Fr. Paul Siebert, pastor, officiating.

A graveside service with burial to follow will be held at noon on Monday in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner, PA.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church, Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library, or the Guy and Mary Felt Manor, all in Emporium. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
