QCare allows Penn Highlands Healthcare to provide fast, convenient care for patients in a private setting. The choice of QCare over the emergency department helps alleviate the wait times in the emergency department and allows the staff the time needed to care for true emergencies.

Our goal at QCare is to ensure that residents throughout the region have access to the health care services they need, when they need it.
QCare is an additional option for patients that can not be seen by their primary care physician or for patients that do not have a family doctor.

Do I need to make an appointment to visit QCare? No appointments are necessary. Walk right in during normal business hours.

QCare or Emergency Room? Whenever you or someone you love has sudden symptoms of an illness or injury, your first thought is getting to a medical facility.

But how do you decide which medical facility you should go to? There are two different places you can go when symptoms suddenly appear- the emergency room or QCare urgent care.

How do you decide which you should go to?
If it’s a life threatening injury or illness, go straight to the emergency room (which is sometimes best accomplished by calling 911). There is one conveniently located at each Penn Highlands Healthcare hospital. Open 24/7, this is definitely the right choice for any sudden, serious injury or illness.

When is it appropriate to visit QCare? With no appointment necessary, QCare centers can be a great option when you're seeking convenient medical services or treatments. We offer quick care for minor illnesses and injuries, such as: • Flu-like symptoms • Fever • Vomiting • Coughs, colds, sinus problems • Earaches • Sprains • Back pain • Rashes • Minor eye problems • Minor cuts and abrasions • Minor aches and pains • Bladder infections • Tick and insect bites Other Convenient Services • Sports physicals • Driver’s license physicals • Work and Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals (DOT at St Marys QCare ) *DOT physicals may have to be scheduled • Tetanus shots • Suture removal • Laboratory testing and X-rays

We do not perform annual checkups or physicals. For yearly preventive and wellness exams, you should schedule an appointment with your primary care physician.

What do I need to bring with me when I visit QCare? When you visit QCare, please be sure to bring: • A form of identification • Your insurance card • A form of payment - We offer convenient payment options including cash, check, or credit card.
Insurance co-payments are due at time of service.

What insurance plans does QCare accept? Penn Highlands Healthcare QCares accept most major insurance. If you have questions about whether your visit will be covered, please contact your insurance company.

How will I be charged for my QCare visit? QCare is billed the same as a physician office visit. All co-pays and deductibles will apply and payment will be expected at the time of services. All physicals are prepaid at the time of visit.

Is there anything you cannot treat at QCare? There are times when it is not appropriate to visit QCare and you should instead seek emergency medical attention. These include: • Chest pain • Stroke • Heart attack • Severe abdominal pain • Major head injuries • Major trauma • Compound fracture (bone visible) • Shortness of Breath • Ingestion of poisons • Seizures • Dizziness • Severe burns • Shock • Snake bites • Uncontrollable bleeding If you think you are experiencing a life-threatening condition, call 911 or seek immediate medical attention at the nearest emergency department.

Does QCare treat children? Yes. QCare welcomes all patients over the age of one. Infants under the age of one should be seen in the Emergency Room.
