If you hang up, our calltakers have to take the time to call the number back and send the police to your door. How embarrassing, right?

If you call 9-1-1 from a cell phone, it is your responsibility as the caller to know the address/location of the emergency. Although technology has improved for emergency communications over the last two decades, computer systems do NOT show the specific address on wireless calls from cell phones. Dispatchers will know the general area from which the call is originating, but this can vary anywhere from 10 yards to 1/4 mile in a radial search in every direction.
