Bernal P. “Buzz” Olivett



Bernal P. “Buzz” Olivett, 94, of Pinecrest Manor, St.Marys, formerly of Emporium, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, in Elk RegionalHealth Center,St. Marys.

Born February 26, 1918 in Emporium, he was the son of the late Samuel and Marie Comley Olivett.  On December 7, 1940 in Emporium he married EvaAnn Sarokon who died September 12, 2008.

A lifelong Emporium resident, Buzz he attended Emporium schools and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Emporium.  From 1930 until 1961 he worked with his father in the family business, Sam Olivett & Son grocery store.  He was then employed by IDS Investors Diversified Services until retiring at the age of 70.

Buzz was very active in the community being one of the founders of the Emporium Kiwanis Club and the Cameron County Ambulance Service and was a charter member of Emporium Country Club.  He was a longtime member and past president of the Emporium Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of Emporium Men’s Club, Bucktail Rod & Gun Club,and the Emporium Fire Department for over 60 years.  He served on the Emporium Borough Council for 24 years, 12 as president, was past chairman of the local Republican Party, and for over 40 years he was a member of the sideline crew, moving the chains at the high school football games, where countless times he voluntarily provided food &/or beverages for the team.

Mr. Olivett is survived by: one son, Donald E. (Anne) Olivett of Emporium; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one son, Burnal Olivett in 1954.

Visitations with video tribute will be held in the Coppersmith-CondonFuneral Home, Emporium, Sunday, March 4 from 1-3 p.m. at which time Funeral& Committal Services will follow with the Rev. R. Scott Melott, pastor ofthe First Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in NewtonCemetery, Emporium.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’schoice
