ROADSIDE CLEAN-UP
Thanks to all 15 volunteers that came out and collected over 40 bags of trash between Emporium and Driftwood. The road looks great!
Keep an eye on this Facebook page for details about an additional clean-up event along the stream.
We'll be watching the water levels and the weather forecast and hope to have a bunch of canoes and kayaks out to clean-up the streambank within the next 2 weeks.
An extra shout out to Randy Bailey and Pam Baker from Driftwood that started last week and collected trash from Driftwood up to Tunnel Hill before joining us again on Sunday.
Thank you for your big effort!
Thanks to the staff at PennDOT for supplying the bags, vests, and gloves and for collecting the filled bags afterwards.

348 Arch Drive, Emporium, PA 15834
Hi everyone!
The inside of the playground building is getting a facelift and the youth group from the CMA church will start doing updates soon!
The walls will be getting a fresh coat of paint and new shelving units will be installed to create a more organized space that the kids can utilize this summer!
Darlene Reed and I spent several hours yesterday cleaning out the cabinets.
We have a large pile of items that we would like to donate.
I will be putting everything out on Saturday and Sunday this weekend and anyone from the community is welcome to look through the items and take what they would like!
There will also be a donation jar set out for anyone that would like to donate money towards fixing this fun space up for the kids!
If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
I’m so excited to see the progress and for the kids to have an inviting space to hang out in this summer!

Legacy Behind Cameron County's Conservation Corp Camps
Legacy Behind Cameron County's Conservation Corp Camps
Come join the Cameron County Historical Society Saturday May 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the VFW when they present the legacy behind our Conservation Corp Camps.
Did you know we had six camps: Sizerville, Hunts Run, Lushbaugh, Bobby's Run, North Creek, and Wykoff Run including a all black camp and a Veterans Camp.
Sizerville was the first camp and Hunts Run was the longest running camp starting in 1933 and closing in 1942 on the cusp of WWII.The presentation given by Susan Hoy, Vice President of the Cameron County Historical who created the book "The Ghost Walk" preserving all six of our camps histories. It was a dream of she and her husband had for over ten years being proud of the fact that her father, and two uncles who once served at the Hunts Run Camp. The book will be available at the event from the Society.
The presentation will include hundreds of photos many not seen before, plus what we are most excited about a video of the Hunts Run Camp while in operation in 1940. The presentation will cover the "Pepper Hill Fire" and the legacy behind Memorial Springs, a tribute to those who lost their lives. This fire is studied still today through the "National Wildland Fire Lessons Learned Center" that help reveal the complexity and risk in the wild land fire environment.
Many folks do not realize that our beautiful lush forest that we see today was once deforested by the lumber barrens of our histories past. Thanks to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his creation of his famous "Tree Army" during the depression our forests are back and managed so that our forest are never lost again.
Don't miss this educational history that brought here hundreds of young men to Cameron County, giving them work so they could feed their families back home. They left behind something we take for granted today, our amazing forest!
See you Saturday May 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM at VFW in Emporium - RSVP would be appreciated! Call: 814-486-4314. Refreshments provided.
Opened to the general public and FREE!
