Rotary News

Rotarian, Kim Jones, introduced District Attorney, Jeanne Rees Miglicio, (left) as the guest speaker at the Rotary luncheon June 6th. Attorney Miglicio grew up and attended school in Emporium through 10th grade, after which her family moved to Austin where she graduated from Austin High School. In 1992, she moved back to Emporium and purchased Oden’s Inn, which she sold in 2001 and is now known as Pizza Palace Plus. After selling the restaurant, Jeanne decided to attend law school receiving her law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in May 2007. After passing the PA bar exam in 2007, she went on to receive a graduate law degree in taxation in 2008 from Georgetown University Law School in Washington, D.C. She has served as a legal fellow with the U. S. Senate finance committee in Washington, D.C, a competitive yet non- paying position. She also worked for an accounting firm in Bethesda, Maryland in estate planning and taxation before returning to Emporium in January 2009 opening her own law office. In 2015, Jeanne was elected to the office of District Attorney of Cameron County. She was also awarded one of the 50 Best Women in Business Award from the Pennsylvania Governor’s office.

Jeanne explained that the District Attorney’s position is part-time in both Cameron, Forest & Sullivan counties in PA. She has her private law practice, but always addresses crime first as DA and works with both the local and state police departments. Recently, she worked on a non-competitive grant through PA Commission on Crime & Delinquency for $20,000.00 with an extra $10,000.00 for local police department. Through this grant, the Emporium Borough Police were able to purchase body cam equipment, updated police vests, new taser and camera equipment for a vehicle. For the past 7 years, Jeanne has also been involved in mock trials at the school and the PBA “Stepping Out” program designed to help graduating seniors make the often intimidating first step into adulthood by providing them with valuable information on such legal matters as renting an apartment, buying a car, driving under the influence, marriage and divorce.
