Traffic Accidents - Sizerville Road

Neither driver was hurt in a crash on Sizerville Road at it's intersection with Sizer Run Road in Portage Township on December 19, 2012 at 1:05 PM.
Trooper Eric Farabaugh who investigated, said as a 1997 Mack E7-464 driven by Daryl M. Downes, 53, of Philipsburg, PA, was traveling southbound on Rt. 155, a 2005 Volkswagen Passat driven by Shirley J. Zimmer, 81, of Emporium, PA, turned onto Route 155 from Old Portage Road without first checking to see if the roadway was clear.
Downes steered his truck to the right, but was unable to avoid hitting the Volkswagen. The car was struck in the passenger side door with the left front tire. The truck started to spin counter clockwise and rotated about 90 degrees and came to rest across both lanes of travel. The Volkswagen continued southbound in the northbound lane and the front of the vehicle was pinned under the bumper of the truck.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and were unhurt. The truck was able to be driven from the scene. The Volkswagen was towed.
Zimmer was cited for a stop sign violation.

An Emporium man suffered a minor injury but his 2000 Chevrolet sustained severe front end and undercarriage damage when his vehicle left the Sizerville Road on Saturday morning and went into the ditch.
Michael A. Pearson, 30, of Emporium, PA, was traveling north on Rt. 155, near the entrance to Sizerville State Park in Portage Township, Cameron County, when his vehicle traveled across the southbound travel lane and onto the shoulder of the roadway. It then traveled into a ditch, along the ditch for 122 feet, where it struck an embankment located in the ditch. It then traveled back onto the roadway and came to rest  facing east across the northbound lane of Rt. 155.
Pearson faces pending summary traffic charges in District Court.
Trooper John Whitcomb was assisted at the scene by members of the Emporium Fire Department and the Emporium Ambulance Service. The vehicle was towed by Ramsey's Garage.
