Dr. Charles Blumle (Updated 12/4/23)

Dr. Charles (Chuck) A. Blumle (AKA “Doc”) of Emporium passed away on November 30 at the Guy and Mary Felt Manor. He was 84. Chuck was a graduate of Emporium High School and graduated with a BS from Western Reserve University and an MS from John Carroll University, both in Cleveland, OH.

After teaching high school at Hathaway Brown (Cleveland), he and his wife Judy Enstrom Blumle went west where Chuck spent some years at the University of Utah working in research labs. There, Chuck and Judy developed a lifelong passion for the canyon lands and western national parks. Both vacationed there many times with various friends and relatives, notably making the famous “Rim to Rim” Grand Canyon multi-day hike 6 times over the years. After their western excursion, Chuck attended and graduated from dental school at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The couple returned to Emporium in the mid-seventies to establish a dental practice in the first floor of their home on Fourth Street. For many years Chuck served the families of Emporium in this capacity.

Chuck was well-known for his photography and design capabilities and numerous projects in “The Barn” – his well-equipped workshop and notable social gathering place. Among the larger of those projects were classic sportscar (Austin-Healey Sprite) and railroad steam engine renovations. Chuck is survived by many devoted relatives and friends in Emporium and across the country.

Immediate family members preceding him in death were his parents, Leo and Delores Blumle, his brother Leo-Joe and his wife Judy.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chuck’s Memory may be made to the Judy Enstrom Blumle Memorial Scholarship by contacting the Elk County Community foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
