Margaret W. Carouse

Margaret W. Carouse, 96, of Parma, OH, formerly of Emporium, died Wednesday, January 26, 2010, in Seasons of Life Hospice, in Parma.


Born October 4, 1914 in Emporium, she was the daughter of Fred and Mary Farrell Williams. In 1949 in St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium she married Mario Carouse who died in 1986.

She was a graduate of Emporium High School and after graduation was employed by Sylvania Electric in Emporium. After leaving Emporium, she was employed for many years by Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio) in Cleveland, OH.

In 2004 she moved to Brecksville, OH but had been a resident of Parma most of her life.

Mrs. Carouse was a former member of St. Mark Church in Emporium. She was an outstanding athlete and excelled in basketball, having played on Sylvania’s travelling semi-pro team. She was also a high roller in bowling. Margaret loved her family, friends, and her beloved pets and enjoyed a wonderful long and healthy life, continuing on her own until the last few weeks of her life.

Survivors include: five nieces, Ginger (George) Horning, Mary Jane (Fred) Guido, Judy (Tony) Lewis, all of Emporium, Sue (Tom) Armstrong of Rolla, MO, and Linda (Jake) Robinson of Austin, PA; five nephews, Robert Williams of Emporium, John Nickler of Ballwin, MO, Tom (Kathy) Nickler of St. Augustine, FL, Tom Williams of Bala Cynwyd, and Robert (Marilyn) Carouse of Myersdale; three great-nieces, Ellen (Ray) Weiss, Dianne (Kirk) Hutchinson, and Jeanne (Paul) Travaglianti all of Brecksville; one great-nephew, Lou (Pam) Carouse, also of Brecksville; one brother-in-law, Tom Nickler of St. Augustine, FL; and many more nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carouse was predeceased by: five brothers, Harold, Arthur, Richard (Red), Robert (Beaver), and Gene Williams; two sisters, Rose Williams and Marie Nickler; and two nephews, Donald and Joseph Williams.

There will be no visitations in Emporium. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Emporium, with Fr. Paul Siebert, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the CCHS Sports Banquet, which was initiated by her father, Fred Williams, or any local athletic team or charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
