Chrissy Slusarick was guest speaker of Rotarian Horacio Carpio this week.
Chrissy, a 17-year member of the Sylvan Heritage Council, spoke about some of the beautification projects she and others have accomplished through the years.
She spoke about the importance of maintaining an appealing downtown area as it not only benefits the residents but is also beneficial in marketing our town to others outside of our community.
Along with the hard work of their own volunteers, the SHC also coordinates efforts with the Emporium Fire Department, Emporium Borough, local contractors, and others to complete their projects.
A few of the projects they complete annually are washing the sidewalks on main street, digging, mulching and planting shrubs in the triangle at the east end of town, and planting flowers at the entrance of town and outside of local businesses.
They have also helped to coordinate larger projects such as the exterior building updates that the downtown businesses received a few years ago, hanging of the military banners through town, and creating the "Pocket Park" in the center of town next to the Chamber of Commerce.
Chrissy has a love of the community and feels that her effort and the effort of others can make Emporium a welcoming and beautiful place to live and visit!
The Emporium Rotary Club certainly appreciates all that they do for our community!
