Indoor Yard Sale
Country Blessings will be running the “Indoor Yard Sale” for another week. This means our valuable customers will have a greater opportunityto enjoy our bargains when they come into the store.
This week’s sale Sept (28th-30th) at Country Blessings will be ALL jeans/pantsare 50% off and with the cold weather coming, even if you don’t “find” that onething you are looking for; you can always come in for a fresh cup of coffee or hot tea, those are always free!
Our hours are Wednesday thru Friday 9 am- 5pm.
We are located in the “old” 4th St School, 240 E.4th StEmporium

Donald E. Reigel, 77, of 77 W. 4th St., Emporium died at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, New York Thursday night (September 22, 2011)
He was born July 1, 1934 in Kane a son of the late William P. and Clara Benson Reigel.
On November 19, 1934 in St. Callistus Catholic Church, Kane he married Betty Espin Reigel, who Survives.
Mr. Reigel graduated from Kane High School class of 1952. He was a retired salesman in the powder metal industy for many years. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and has served on Parish Council. He was a member of several local organizations. He enjoyed golfing and his grandchildren.

Charges to Be Filed
An Emporium driver who was clocked at 94 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph zone was found to be Driving under the Influence of Alcohol.
Jeff A. Eckert, 48, of Emporium, PA, was stopped for speeding Tuesday at 6:23 pm on Route 120 in the area of Moore Hill Road in Shippen Township, Cameron County.
State Police will file charges for DUI and related summary offenses in District Court.

An incident that took place on September 15th between 5 and 7:00 PM in Shippen Township, Cameron County is being investigated by State Police at Emporium.

Nancy L. Victory Farrar, 78, of 324 W. 4th St., Emporium died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Wednesday (September 21, 2011) morning.
She was born June 24, 1933 in St. Mary a daughter of the late Harvey and Margaret Bickmire Tompkins.
Mrs. Farrar attended Cameron County Schools and lived her entire life in Emporium. She had worked at Dominicos and the Buttonwood. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Peggy Ann Samick
Peggy Ann Samick, 79, of 138 Airport Road, St. Marys, died on Monday morning, September 19, 2011 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born September 4, 1932 in Cameron County, a daughter of Dorothy Berry Card of Sterling Run and the late Charles Orville Card.
On January 2, 1961 in Emporium, she married the late Albert M. "Loppo" Samick, Jr., who preceded her in death on October 30, 1999.
Mrs. Samick was Protestant by faith. She and her husband lived in Welaka, Florida for many years and enjoyed the time they had spent there. She enjoyed reading, crafts, knitting and crocheting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by:

Debra A Murray
Debra A. Murray, 57, of 956 Murrays Mountain Rd., Emporium died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Monday (September 12, 2011) afternoon following a brief illness. She was born August 3, 1954 in DuBois a daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Lou Reitz Jackson.
On September 28, 1980 in Bloomsburg she married Erwin L. Murray, Jr., who survives.
Mrs. Murray graduated from Cameron County High School in the class of 1972. She had worked at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals as a secretary and retired from Adelphia in 2005. She loved sewing, knitting sweaters for many people, making quilts, crafting, camping the beach and hunting.

Tannery Heights
Ridgway State Police are investigating a burglary at residence 409 Tannery Heights in Shippen Township. Maria Jane Martin of St. Marys is noted as the owner of the residence. Police said upon arriving found the rear door open. Evidence at the scene led to a neighbor's home where David Wolfanger, 19, of Emporium and a known 17 year old juvenile were found along with property form the victims residence. Wolfanger and the juvenile gained entry through an open window and began removing property until they observed State police, then fled out the rear door. Charges have been filed with Cameron County Juvenile probation against he 17 year old juvenile. Wolfanger was arraigned in from of Judge Alvin Brown for charges of Burglary, Theft and Receiving stolen property

Anna Marie (Tipton) Simpson,
Anna Marie (Tipton) Simpson, 74, of Hagerstown, MD., formerly of Emporium, PA., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Born on June 25, 1937 in Lonaconing, MD., she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Elmira Mae (Morton) Tipton. She was a graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. She loved ceramics and crafts but her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and family. She was a faithful pastor’s wife and along with her husband Dwight served Churches in Pennsylvania for over 35 years.
Anna Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years Dwight of Hagerstown, MD., her daughter Donna Rose and husband Steven of Hagerstown, MD. Sons, D. Randall Simpson and wife Sheri of Hollidaysburg, PA., Brian Simpson of St. Marys, PA., and Brent Simpson and wife Idalee of Hummelstown, PA. Her grand-children, Daniel and Nathan Rose of Hagerstown, MD., Brandon and Zachary Simpson of Hollidaysburg, PA., and Emma Grace, Grayson and Abram Simpson of Hummelstown, PA. Three brothers, Charles “Bill” Tipton and wife Faye of Cumberland, MD., Joseph Tipton and wife Carol of Wiley Ford, WV., and Dennis Tipton of Cumberland, MD. One sister, Marlene (Tipton) Cosgrove and husband Laurence of Westernport, MD. Two sister-in-laws, Linda (Hazelwood) Tipton of Corpus Christi, Texas and Bonnie (Wilson) Tipton of Cumberland, MD.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Kenneth and John “Jack” along with two sisters, Elizabeth and Iona.
A memorial service will be held at Minnich’s Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown, MD 21740 on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland, MD. The Rev. Steven Rose, son-in-law, will officiate.

Born on June 25, 1937 in Lonaconing, MD., she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Elmira Mae (Morton) Tipton. She was a graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. She loved ceramics and crafts but her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and family. She was a faithful pastor’s wife and along with her husband Dwight served Churches in Pennsylvania for over 35 years.
Anna Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years Dwight of Hagerstown, MD., her daughter Donna Rose and husband Steven of Hagerstown, MD. Sons, D. Randall Simpson and wife Sheri of Hollidaysburg, PA., Brian Simpson of St. Marys, PA., and Brent Simpson and wife Idalee of Hummelstown, PA. Her grand-children, Daniel and Nathan Rose of Hagerstown, MD., Brandon and Zachary Simpson of Hollidaysburg, PA., and Emma Grace, Grayson and Abram Simpson of Hummelstown, PA. Three brothers, Charles “Bill” Tipton and wife Faye of Cumberland, MD., Joseph Tipton and wife Carol of Wiley Ford, WV., and Dennis Tipton of Cumberland, MD. One sister, Marlene (Tipton) Cosgrove and husband Laurence of Westernport, MD. Two sister-in-laws, Linda (Hazelwood) Tipton of Corpus Christi, Texas and Bonnie (Wilson) Tipton of Cumberland, MD.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Kenneth and John “Jack” along with two sisters, Elizabeth and Iona.
A memorial service will be held at Minnich’s Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown, MD 21740 on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland, MD. The Rev. Steven Rose, son-in-law, will officiate.

Kendyl M. Shaffer
Kendyl M. Shaffer, 14, of 240 W Allegany Ave., Emporium, died at Childrens Hospital-UPMC, Pittsburgh on Thursday (September 8, 2011) night.
She was born April 12, 1997 in St. Marys a daughter of Kenneth and Julie Bauer Shaffer, Emporium
Kendyl was a 9th grade student at Cameron County High School.
She was actively involved in Cheerleading, Softball, rollerblading, piano and guitar.
She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents are brothers Adam and Ryan Shaffer of Emporium.

This year the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack on the United States falls on a Sunday. The nature of this anniversary calls for special recognition at weekend liturgies. We will remember those who lost loved ones on 9/11 and those who have served or are serving in the military, firemen, ambulance and law enforcement personnel at 10:30 AM mass on Sept. 11th @ St. Marks Church.
The readings for the 24th Sunday of Ordinary Time appropriately focus on forgiveness and God’s mercy. We will pray for the Church, our nation, the world. God Bless America. Let There Be Peace on Earth.

Stolen Pickup - DUI
A Mexican man with a West Virginia address, in the US illegally, was jailed for stealing a pickup truck in Emporium and smashing it into another car early Sunday morning while under the influence of alcohol.
Angel Jadieal Cortes, 25, of Lewisburg, WV, was arraigned before District Judge Wilhelm and jailed at the Elk County Prison in lieu of $25,000. straight bail.
The incident occurred as Cortes entered a 1975 Chevrolet Silverado, owned by Michael Singer of Emporium, and parked along the north berm of West 6th Street in Emporium Boro. Upon removing the vehicle from the parked location, Cortes traveled westward and struck the rear of a parked 2007 Chrysler Sebring owned by Nathan VanSickles of Emporium.
Singer found Cortes in the driver's seat of his pickup. Cortes was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police near the scene of the incident. Police found Cortes to be under the influence of alcohol and upon further investigation, determined that Cortes was in the United States illegally. The Department of Homeland Security-I.C.E. was notified.
Cortes is charged with Theft of A Motor Vehicle; Unauthorized Use Of A Motor Vehicle; Driving Under The Influence; and related Summary Offenses.
Anyone who may have additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact PSP Emporium at 814-486-3321. Trooper David A. Surra is the investigating officer.

Percy "Papa Joe" Bailey
Percy "Papa Joe" Bailey, 78, of 40 W. 5th St., Emporium, died at Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys on Saturday (September 3, 2011) morning. He was born October 12, 1932 in Sinnamahoning a son of the late Bruce and Gladys Summerson Bailey.
Mr. Bailey graduated from Emporium High School and served with the US Army during the Korean War. Joe retired from Keller Oil in St. Marys where he worked for many years and drove many miles during his employment. He later worked for GKN as a night watchmen and a driver. He was a member of the Sinnamahoning and Sterling Run United Methodist Churchs. He enjoyed painting, fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing softball and sponsoring the "Pappa Joes" Softball team.

Son: Randy Bailey, Driftwood
Son: P.J. Bailey and his wife Carissa, Universal City, TX

Jennifer Middaugh, Charles Cole’s first nurse midwife, has joinedthe practice of Dr. Celso Backes and Dr. Max Laurore. Jennifer will focuson prenatal care, birth, postpartum care, and gynecologic and reproductivehealth.
