Clara "Peg" Bobinko
Clara "Peg" Bobinko
Clara "Peg" McFall Bobinko, 95, of Emporium and Rockledge,
Florida, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital,
Coudersport.
Born November 4, 1914 in Galeton, she was the daughter of Jesse
and Harriet Schoonover McFall.
On September 6, 1940 in Emporium, she married George E. Bobinko
who died in 1981.
A resident of Emporium for many years, Mrs. Bobinko and her
husband had relocated to Florida in the late 60s after retiring as
caretakers/managers of the Emporium Country Club. In 2006 she moved back to
Emporium where she lived with her niece Cathy Hoffman and husband Bill and
son Tim.
She had attended school in Galeton and years ago was employed by
Sylvania Electric in Emporium.
Mrs. Bobinko was a member of St. Mark Church in Emporium and for
many years in Florida was an active volunteer at nursing homes and for
senior citizens. Peg loved life, family and friends and her many pets over
the years. She enjoyed gardening and nature, having yard sales, and playing
bingo.
She is survived by: one daughter, Mary Catherine Doud of Ulysses;
3 grandchildren, Garth and Becky Clark of Ulysses, Jennnifer Lyons of
Altoona, and Ken and Molly Cowley of Emporium; 4 step grandchildren, Rita
Stuckey, Rhonda Reed, and Glenn and Craig Doud, all of Emporium; 11 great
grandchildren; 4 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one infant
daughter, Rosemary, 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
Friends will be received in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home,
Emporium, Wednesday, July 21 from 6-7 p.m. at which time Funeral Services
will be conducted by members of the family.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses or the
Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

Ruth Alice Horner Howard
Ruth Alice Horner Howard, 71, Sinnemahoning, formerly of Strangford, died Saturday at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.
Born Jan. 23, 1939, in Saltsburg, she was a daughter of the late James Horner and Pearl Baird Horner Gary. She was married to Robert E. Howard June 8, 1957. He survives.
She was a 1957 graduate of Saltsburg High School.
She was a member of Sinnemahoning United Methodist Church and the Caledonia Quilting Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and in her flower and vegetable gardens, riding motorcycles and traveling.
She is also survived by one son, Jimmy (Denise) Howard, Melbourne Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Sherry (Mark) Howard, Blairsville; one brother, Bill (Donna) Horner, Bolivar; five sisters: Bertha Cline of Iselin, Ann Cribbs of Saltsburg, Esther (James) McConnell of Blairsville, Martha Akins of Vandergrift and Judy (Rick) Emery of Blairsville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Horner.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Shoemaker Funeral Home in Blairsville.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Prewitt Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Lewisville.

Robert L. Strahl, 87, of 2107 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, PA died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Sunday (July 11, 2010) night.
He was born Jan 3, 1923 in Port Allegany a son of the late George and Grace Ness Strahl.
He married Evelyn Smith, who Survives.
Mr. Strahl served with the US Navy during WW II. After the service he attended Perdue University for electronics. He was an electrical Sylvania where he retired after over 43 years of employment.

Robert “Paul” Connelly, 81, formerly of Emporium, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois.
Born May 10, 1929 in Wilkinsburg, Pa. he was the son of James J. and Wilhelmina Burger Connelly.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War and was a sergeant at time of his discharge.
A longtime resident of Emporium, Mr. Connelly was employed by Emporium Contractors as an electrician retiring in 1962 and was also self-employed as a roofer.
He was a member of Olkosky-Jessop Post #194 of the American Legion in Emporium.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert Paul Connelly, Jr. and Charles P. Connelly, both of Tucson, Arizona and David Connelly; two daughters, Dianne (Terry) Deshong of Punxsutawney and Karen Connelly; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Connelly of Pittsburgh and Albert “George” Connelly of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, James, Edward and Charles Connelly and two sisters, Wilma Stevenson and Peg Faulds.

Jane M. Miller, 63, of Emporium, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Long Term Care facility, Coudersport.
Born June 4, 1947 in St. Marys, she was the daughter of Charles and Doris Splati Haviland.
A lifelong resident of Emporium, Mrs. Miller had attended Cameron County schools and was employed by local businesses such as the Warner Hotel and the Buttonwood Motel.
Mrs. Miller was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Emporium and was a former member of the Women of the Moose Port Allegany Chapter #205 and Miller-Raffaele Unit #6222 of the VFW Auxiliary in Emporium.
Survivors include: a daughter, Alexandria Miller of Emporium; two brothers, Laverne Haviland of St. Marys and Paul Haviland, Sr. of Emporium; one sister, Marilyn Kopp of Kane; and many nieces and nephews.
