Cameron County Community Chest 2024 Fund Drive – June Update
Through June 30th, we have collected $16,001.50 toward our goal of $16,600. Thanks to all who have
contributed. This drive will run through September 30, 2024.
This month, we would like to feature the Super Weekend/Second Saturday Summer Concert Series
Committee.
Several years ago, the Cameron County Project identified “Super Weekend” as an entertaining
community event suggesting it should be brought back. As the informational gathering was during
Covid all personal suggested activities were suspended. At the conclusion of the project a “Super
Saturday” event was deemed feasible. A committee was formed to plan the event and the remaining
Cameron County Project funds were earmarked to promote community. Additional funds were raised
throughout the community and numerous organizations volunteered to participate, providing activities,
giveaways and prizes. “Super Saturday” turned out to be a big hit, having vendors, food trucks, kid
activities, entertainment during the day ending with an evening band. With two (2) successful “Super
Saturday” events last year became “Super Weekend;” starting Friday night with a corn hole tournament
& band – Saturday with farmers market, vendors, activities, food trucks and a band – Sunday with a
community worship service and lunch, then to Driftwood for more fun activities. This year will be much
the same, but there are added activities on Saturday in Emporium and on Sunday in Driftwood.
This same committee recognized that the “Second Saturday Summer Concert Series,” (started in 2020,
organized and operated by Rich Valley Wines) provided entertainment and activities to the community
and rumored to be phasing out. Each Second Saturday (May thru August), the day starts with the
Farmer’s Market, then, in the evening there is a food truck and a band in the center lot. The committee
decided they would like to see the “Second Saturday Summer Concert Series” continue and decided to
take on this event utilizing funds that have been donated to the Community Chest for community
entertainment events open to the public. Then obtained local participation to help with setup and
cleanup for the opportunity to raise funds for their organizations.
These events would not be possible without the generosity of local individuals, businesses, and
organizations. They provide funds, sponsorships and grants to cover the costs of the events. These
donations are put into a special fund account to be used for these activities as approved by the Cameron
County Community Chest board of directors.
If you would like to donate to the Special fund account to keep these activities/events going, you can
make a check payable to Cameron County Community Chest and designate the Super Weekend
Committee in the Memo.
General fund contributions are always appreciated and help support the Recreation Board, Community
Nurses, Red Cross, Friends of the Library, the Package Team, the Garden Club, and Special Community
Requests.
No donation/memorial is too small. Please send your tax-deductible contribution to: Cameron County
Community Chest, PO Box 134, Emporium, PA 15834, Attn: Judd Schager.
