Throwing for the Angels Cornhole Fundraiser

We all realize and understand that our summers are busy and there is always something to do.
But, this tournament will benefit a special group of people in our community.
So, we are asking for a favor on this one to spark the masses and come out for several hours of fun.
We are trying to keep it on the down low about this one because we hope to make the proceeds a surprise for those folks. But, if you want to know more about it, feel free to reach out to one of us listed on the flyer. Powder Keg Cornhole thanks you in advance for your support.

Weekend in the Wilds Success

Weekend in the Wilds Success
Weekend in the Wilds drew thousands to events and businesses over the weekend. The 2-days of festivities began Friday and concluded Saturday evening with a new venue for the fireworks. The event organized by the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce coordinates activities for each day and works with businesses and non-profits to provide a weekend filled with events.

Two bands featuring young musicians kicked off the event Friday evening. The crowd enjoyed the music and purchased sweet treats from a local vendor. Saturday brought out a slew of Big Foot Hunters hoping to capture the elusive feet! Mountaineer Search & Rescue officials say this year everyone with a license received a t-shirt and the successful hunters took home prizes donated by Cameron County businesses. The sidewalks and streets heated up as the temperature rose. The thermometer reached nearly 90 during the vendor event which drew more than 50 to set up booths. Many headed to Smokers Insane Terrain Offroad Park for the smash and crash car mud race. That event continued until 7pm. Food trucks and open fields for pick up games of football, horseshoes and other activities kept the crowd busy until fireworks blasted off around 9:30.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak noted many new changes to this years event. Vendors were spread out throughout the downtown. “We placed vendors on some of the side streets to alleviate overcrowding of the sidewalks and improved access to the businesses. The move also was for safety keeping people from walking on Fourth Street.” The most noticeable difference was the location of the fireworks. “There was plenty of parking and the exodus from the area went flawless,” according to Solak. Social media showed plenty of room for outdoor games and gathering in the area set aside at Smokers Insane Terrain Offroad Park. Solak says plans for next year include the same location for fireworks and adding a band from 7-9pm.

Winners of the annual firequacker duck derby included Mailyn Sidelinger, Isabel Les and Scott Haman. Bunny McLean won the $1000 gift card to the Emporium Food Market. As of Monday afternoon the 50/50 remained unclaimed. The number on a blue ticket reads 20382-147. It is worth $365.00. It can be claimed by contacting the chamber office.

Solak concluded with a thanks to every volunteer from every organization/business that contributed with hours or financially. And special thanks to those that adopted ducks, bought hot dogs, 50/50 tickets, Emporium Food Market raffle tickets or attended the Lit & Lucky fundraiser. Those funds paid for the bands, advertising and fireworks.
