Emporium Hardwoods Business Update

Emporium Hardwoods - Bradford Forest -The Rossi Group.
The new kilns are coming along well, and the next stage focuses on the electric systems that will power them. This phase involves installing the all the wiring for the control components that allows the kilns to operate safely and precisely. Each component plays an important role in regulating heat and maintaining consistent conditions. Once these electrical systems are in place, the kilns will move much closer to being fully operational.

She was born on November 6, 1928, in Peoria, IL. She was a 1946 graduate of Emporium High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Shoup. The two enjoyed 71 years of marriage together before Jim’s passing in 2020- welcoming 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

June’s true passion was her work with the local chapter of the Eastern Star, where she was a Past Worthy Matron.

In addition to her parents and husband, June is preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Ballou.

She is survived by her children: son Dennis (Rebecca) Shoup of Atlanta, GA, and daughter Mary (David) Maxwell of Coraopolis, PA, and grandchildren: Robbie (Tracie) Graham with son Bennett and daughter Zodie, Dyanna (Andrew) McCown with daughter Hadley and son Harrison, Leah (David) Macias with daughters Isabel and Emerson and son Maxwell, Gregory (Samantha) Maxwell with daughter Violet, and Claire (Dominic) Scalise with daughter Liliana.

Cindy Leigh Genevro

Cindy Leigh Genevro, 66, of Gibsonia, formerly of Emporium, PA, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at AHN Wexford.

Born October 25, 1959 in St. Marys, PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Joanne Nellis Austin. Cindy was a small business owner early on, working at her shop “Papa Grasshopper”. In her later years, she worked as a lunch room monitor and crossing guard, and was a faithful member of Victory Family Church.

Eight years ago, Cindy was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. Her doctors told her there wasn’t much they could do. Cindy did not accept that, displaying tremendous strength, faith and courage, she achieved remission until 2025. Throughout Cindy’s battle, she fought with such determination and grace, inspiring everyone in with whom she came in contact. She touched so many lives with her radiant smile. In spite of the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration to all her knew her. Cindy’s selflessness, generosity, and legacy of love knew no bounds and will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey. As a nurse, I will honor my mom through my love and dedication to my patients as I had for her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and her strength will come to inspire generations to come.

In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Genevro; brother, Timothy Austin; and good friend, Jerry Moate.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Alayna Genevro; brothers, Scott and Mike Austin; sisters, Lisa Augustine, Sue Jordan, Heather Johnson, Ashley Austin, Jennifer Austin, and Julie Smoker; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved mini dachshund, Gucci.

Friends will be received during a Celebration of Cindy’s Life, Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the VFW, Emporium, PA. Professional arrangements have been entrusted to Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, please bring a dish to pass along and a favorite memory of my mom.

I would like to send a special thank you to Randy and Bev Cirelli, Jared Cirelli, and Caleb and Abbey Cirelli for always being a glimpse of Jesus’ love during the hardest season of mine and my mom’s life.

Cindy is now pain free and resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

PennDOT - District 2 News Utility Relocation Work on Route 120 in Emporium Starts April 6

Utility Relocation Work on Route 120 in Emporium Starts April 6

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that utility relocation work on a highway reconstruction project along Route 120 in Emporium Borough and Shippen Township will start on Monday, April 6. This relocation work is part of a project that will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of approximately three-quarters of a mile of roadway between Spruce Street in Emporium Borough and Route 155 in Shippen Township.

Starting April 6, the contractor will begin the utility line relocation portion of this project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers in the roadway providing traffic control. PennDOT expects this work to occur primarily between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday but notes that start and end times may vary. It urges drivers to build extra time into their commutes or consider alternate routes.

Utility relocation work is expected to continue into late July. Upon completion, the contractor will begin highway reconstruction work. PennDOT will provide updates on traffic impacts and the construction schedule as work progresses.

Work for this contract includes utility line relocation, drainage improvements, paving, guide rail and sidewalk installation, line painting and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., of State College, PA, is the contractor for this $8.8 million project. PennDOT anticipates work on this project to carry over into the 2027 construction season.

Drivers can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.

First Presbyterian Church Easter Sunday Service

Robert Ernest Peck

Robert Ernest Peck, 58, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Duke University Hospital.

A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock. Service details will be shared once finalized.

Robert was born on October 9, 1967, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Robert Edwin Peck and the late Beverly Jean Mosser Peck. He was a man who truly lived life on his own terms. Robert loved being on the open road riding his motorcycle, enjoying quiet moments spent hunting and fishing, and the satisfaction he felt tinkering with electronics.

He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Robert delighted in “terrorizing” friends and family on Facebook with jokes and pranks, and every Halloween he could be counted on to scare kids (and maybe a few adults) with his creative antics. He had a way of bringing smiles to others never missing an opportunity to joke, tease, or lighten the moment. Robert will be missed for his ability to make people laugh and just have fun.

Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Margaret Condrey of the home and father, Robert Edwin Peck of Newport, NC.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Jean Peck and his brother, Harry Gregory Peck.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net

Arrangements by Munden Funeral Home & Cremations in Havelock, NC.
