Stephen P. Aversa, Jr. died Sunday, March 12, 2023, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 85.
Born in Jersey City to the late Stephen P. Aversa, Sr. and Catherine (Berghuys) Aversa, he lived in New Jersey, Virginia and Florida before returning to New Jersey over six years ago. He worked for New Jersey Bell, Bell Atlantic and Verizon for 37 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Mr. Aversa served in the United States Army in the early 1960s. He was a member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post #25 in Milltown. He loved collecting and refinishing antiques and was known as Mr. Fix-It. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and a good Danish pastry.
His wife of 61 years, Florence (Browning) Aversa, died in June of 2022. Surviving are his daughter Marie Krause and her husband David of North Brunswick; two sons – Robert Aversa and his wife Tonya of Emporium, Pennsylvania and Thomas Aversa and his wife Becky of Odenville, Alabama; his brother Robert Aversa and his wife Diane of Port Reading; ten grandchildren – Kayleigh, Sean, Kevin, Brynn, Brett, Chelsey, Kacie, Robert Jr., TJ and Christine; and six great grandchildren – Keelan, Carrick, Mae Marie, Addie, Cecilia and Kylee.
Cremation was private. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick with a memorial funeral service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to a heart research charity of one's choice.
