Cameron County Farmers Market
We are happy to announce that our resident weaver, Bonnie Troemel from Mountain View Sheep Farm, will be joining us again at the farmers markets this year!
If you didn’t have the pleasure of seeing her at work last year or have a chance to admire her beautiful weaves then you are in for a treat this summer. Bonnie produces gorgeous, soft, woven shawls and blankets made from the wool that she shears herself from her small herd of Shetland sheep. This rare breed from the Shetland Isles of Scotland have been bought back from threatened status by farmers like herself and Bonnie takes great pride and care of her six woolly charges. They are a small and hardy breed that produce very fine wool in many shades of color, ranging from whites, grays and browns to jet black.
Bonnie spins the wool herself and dyes some of the lighter shades into vibrant colors before she weaves, knits and felts them into unique creations. For some of her garments she also uses super soft merino wool which makes for a very luxurious feeling product. As well as her own weaves and knits Bonnie will also be selling some of her home-spun and home-dyed wool in case you feel inspired to try your own hand at some needle or loom work!
Bonnie will be joining us for several of our market days and you will find her amid her beautiful weaves, working on her loom and happy to chat with any curious market visitors. Stop by to say hello and admire her extremely high quality of work, you’re sure to be impressed!
Welcome back to the market, Bonnie!
