Chase the Winter Blahs Away
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce hosting a taste testing event Saturday January 20 from noon to 3pm. Erin Solveson will unveil the latest home business in Cameron County. Earth Below brews kombucha at the home of Solveson and her husband and two daughters. Kombucha is a non-alcoholic fermented tea which is brewed using live raw cultures. The drink is a probiotic with fizzy flavor combinations.
Solveson says this is the first brewery in the PA Wilds dedicated to kombucha. On Saturday people will be invited to taste the different flavors and purchase the drink.
On the same day St Marys Snowmobile Association planning on its dice run. Unlike past years when the ride centered on DCNR trails, the focus will be the newly completed West Creek Rails Trails. The ride will begin and end at the association club house just outside of St Marys. Riders will roll the dice in the gravel parking lot along the trail in downtown Emporium.
Organizers say they could have more than 200 sleds ride through Emporium. Tina Johns Solak, executive director of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce calls this event an economic windfall for restaurants in the immediate area of the trail. “Traditionally this time of year is slow for those businesses, but having an influx of riders who come from Ohio, and New York provides an opportunity to put downtown Emporium on the map.” Recently Pizza Palace Plus voted by snowmobile enthusiasts as one of the best restaurants.
That event is weather dependent. A final decision will be announced by the St Marys Snowmobile Association by midweek
