3 Special Guest Presenters and Pontoon Tours This Weekend

Sinnemahoning State Park is excited to offer a weekend full of special guest presenters! Presenters from the local community will lead a fall wildflower walk, monarch butterfly tagging and an antler measuring program. Park staff will also lead guided pontoon tours of the George B Stevenson Reservoir for a fun-filled weekend.

On the morning of Saturday, September 17th, learn about native plants from the Cameron and Elk County Penn State Master Gardeners with a Fall Wildflower Walk from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Take a leisurely walk in the fields and the trails nearby to learn about goldenrods, asters, and other fall favorites. Walk will be on slightly uneven terrain, walking shoes or hiking boots recommended. Long pants encouraged.

Later on Saturday, bring the whole family to Monarch Watch Butterfly Tagging. Experienced environmental educator Jess Deluccia returns from 2:00-3:00 PM for a family-focused butterfly tagging program. Start indoors with a presentation on the migration and natural history of monarchs, then take a short walk to catch, tag, and release butterflies. Arial nets will be provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. The tagging portion of the program will not take place in damp or rainy weather. All ages welcome. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom.

On Sunday, September 18th, begin a day at the park with Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Dam. Tours are offered from 9:00-10:15 AM, 10:30-11:45 AM, and 12:00-1:15 PM. Join park staff for a fun and informative 1.25 hour program, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. There is no fee for regular Sunday interpretive pontoon boat tours, but donations are requested. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register with the link below or call the park office. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly recommended. Meet at the Lake Day Use Area.

If a trip around the lake stirs your curiosity about local wildlife, join our special guest from the Cameron County Conservation District, Jon-Marc Burdick, on Sunday afternoon for the Measuring and Scoring Antlers program from 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM in the Wildlife Center Classroom. Discover how deer and elk antlers grow, what conditions make for the largest antlers, and how to measure them. Practice measuring elk antlers, and get some reference sheets to take home. Best for middle-school aged kids through adults. Meet in the Wildlife Center Classroom.

Hope to see you having fun in the park, and a huge thanks to our community partners for working with us to present an exciting weekend!
