Dale James Metz, age 75, of Jamestown, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Dale was born October 9, 1946.
Dale Metz called Emporium his hometown although his life's journey took him to New York, Viet Nam and finally North Carolina where he became a fierce advocate for the public education of special needs children. He literally helped change the public education models for special needs children and their families in this country and has a public school named after him in Greensboro. He also was a talented thespian and a professional Santa Claus for many years. Children were his life.
Dale grew up on North Cherry St. in Emporium, the son of the late James and Beula Gustafson Metz. He passed away yesterday in North Carolina.
A memorial service for Dale will be held Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 East Main St., Jamestown, North Carolina 27282. A visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. will occur.
