The Cameron County Commissioners, in conjunction with the US Census Bureau, have rolled out a children’s coloring contest in the past weeks to promote the 2020 Census. We are currently looking for prize donations from local businesses and organizations to be awarded to the winners. Aside from prize donations, we will also be looking for places to distribute the entry blanks. We would like to hold the contest over a two week period in order to allow time not only for the kids to complete their entries but also to get the word out about the contest. Tentatively, we are planning on running the contest from August 17th through the 28th. Please keep in mind that the prizes will be awarded to children 12 and under. If you would like to donate a prize or allow us to put entry blanks at your place of business, please contact James Moate. Please feel free to forward this email to any business or organization that you feel may be interested in participating in this contest in some capacity. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Due to a lack of initial participation and to give parents more time to turn in entries while navigating the uncertainties involved with the beginning of the school year, the Commissioners have decided to extend the deadline for the Census 2020 Coloring Contest until Friday, September, 18th!
Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in participating, donating prizes, or who would like to distribute entries. Thank you everyone who has already made prize donations and to those establishments where you can currently pick up a contest entry.
At the time of this email, we currently have more prizes than we have entries. We hope this deadline extension will close that gap significantly.
If anyone would like new entry forms with the updated deadline or if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact Commissioner James Moate at (814) 486-9325 Thanks again to everyone who has gotten involved so far!
