Learn about the fascinating world of mushrooms with Central PA Mushroom expert Bill Russell. The presentation will start at 12:00 pm.
GUIDED WALK. At 1:00 PM, we will pile into the Driftwood Mushroom Bus and go to choice mushroom collecting sites. After the walk we will come back to the saloon where we have a:
WILD MUSHROOM IDENTIFICATION AND TASTING. We will identify and discuss the mushrooms we collected, along with mushrooms that were brought to identify. The Driftwood cooks will prepare the choice edible species for all to sample.
MUSHROOM SOUP COOK-OFF. If you love to cook you’ll want to enter the mushroom soup cook off. Soup must be brought in a crockpot and only made with store bought mushrooms. All soup must be registered for voting at 11:45. After the walk everyone is invited to sample the soups.
DOOR PRIZE. There will also be a drawing to win one of Bill Russell’s books called the Guide to Wild Mushrooms of Pennsylvania and the Mid Atlantic. It’s a great book to learn about the wild mushrooms and how they can be used.
OUR FAMOUS PUFFBALL PIZZA. If we find Giant Puffball Mushrooms the cooks at the Saloon will make some Puffball pizzas. You have to try them!
