George and Margaret Mee immigrated to the U. S. in 1961 from England. George a diesel engineer and thought to have much to offer the Company, was invited by his brother-in-law, Robert Mallery, to join his sawmill operation in Hancock, NY. One year later, the Company expanded into
Emporium PA and became known as Mallery Lumber Corporation. In 1976, George Mee succeeded Robert Mallery as President of the Company. After the death of Mr. Mee, the Mee Family established the George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation with assets Mr. Mee realized from his investments in Mallery Lumber Corporation.
The Mee Foundation invests in projects and programs of qualified 502 (C) (3) non-profit organizations that support the communities of Delaware County, NY, Cameron County, PA, Broome County, NY and surrounding areas. Over 10 million has been granted since the Foundation’s inception. In 2017 grants totaled $1,088,596.42 focusing on Education, Community/Recreation, Health/Human Services and Arts/Culture. Some local grants include $15,400.00 to Emporium Volunteer Fire Dept., $75,000.00 to the Cameron County School District, $10,000.00 to JA of Western PA, $150,000.00 to Cameron County Ambulance, $52,500.00 to Northern Tier
Community Action.
