Cameron County Canoe and Kayak Classic To Return in 2019

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce spearheading a committee to continue the canoe race that has brought paddlers from across the United States to the region the first Saturday in April. A dozen individuals recently met with Randy Bailey to coordinate the transition.

The canoe and kayak race is just one spoke in a wheel to promote Cameron County as the destination for outdoor recreation. Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Tina Johns Solak explains that a Sinnemahone Triple Crown is planned for 2019. The Sinnemahone Paddle will kick things off April 6, 2019. The second leg of the triple crown is a mountain bike race. “Currently DCNR Elk State Forest representatives and members of the committee are discussing the 20 mile course,” says Johns Solak. The target month is August for that race. The final piece of the triple crown is the Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run in October. Participants that complete all three jewels of the triple crown in the calendar year will receive a unique award.

Organizers say by placing all three events under one umbrella committee duplication of social media, web, registration and insurance can be accomplished efficiently. The group is seeking individuals interested in all three events or has a passion for one of the events to contact the chamber to be involved. Sub-committees include: sponsorship, course, awards, media, emergency responders, registration and timing.
