The West Creek Rails to Trails will be closed for 2 weeks or less between Hercules Road and Howard Siding. Stream bank repairs scheduled.
Additional trail work towards St Marys should be done by the end of this year (2016).
The middle section is being surfaced with aggregate (that started last week) and will be done in a month or two. The western section will be surfaced in another week or two and will be done by the end of December unless there is an early winter.
The West Creek Recreational Trail will one day stretch 18 miles from Emporium to St. Mary along the former route of the Allegheny & Eastern Railroad, a division of the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad Company.
Currently, the paved trail begins in Emporium and heads 6.4 miles west. The remainder of the trail remains unfinished with a mixture of grass and gravel surfacing. Restaurants, lodging, and shopping are available along the way, as well as natural areas where you might spot deer, elk, bear, and birds.
