Lack of Snow Spells Postponement
The Cameron County Cardboard Classic and snow festival planned for Saturday January 30 postponed for the second week in a row due to lack of sufficient snow and ice thickness. Officials from Cameron County Chamber of Commerce and Emporium Country Club surveyed the location Thursday morning and determined the ice is too shallow for safe ice skating and the recent warm up has melted the snow on the hill to be used for the cardboard sled competition.
The new date is Saturday February 6 from 11am-4pm
Registration for the cardboard sled competition will take place 11am till noon, with competition beginning at noon. Sleds are to be made using cardboard, duct tape, glue and paper. Age groups: 8 and under, 9-12, 13-18 and adults will be judged on originality and the distance traveled by their creation. A two-person snowman building contest and creature building contest will also be held. In addition, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating are planned.
Anyone interested is asked to contact the chamber office at 814-486-4314.
