Emporium Celebrates a Birthday
This fall Emporium turns 150 years old. Cameron County Historical Society and the borough will present a walk back through history Thursday October 23 at the Cameron County Vets Club. The free event will include light refreshments and proclamations by state and federal officials.
Various displays will be set up using items that can be seen at the Little Museum in Sterling Run. They include items from schools in Emporium, businesses, a slide show highlighting pictures and a movie from the 100 year celebration.
The event is free, but a reservation is required to secure ample refreshments. Call 814-486-4314 to reserve your spot. For those that cannot attend Thursday night, the doors will be open Friday afternoon for a second chance opportunity to peruse the tables and displays.
Several artists at the Cameron County Artisan Center have created commemorative items. They include coffee mugs that depict the wooden nickel design from the 1960 celebration, a Christmas ornament featuring the caboose and refrigerator magnets with a photograph from the lookout. The mugs and ornaments are limited in supply. They can be seen and purchased at the chamber office.
