Lorraine Tilburg Coppersmith

 
 
Lorraine Tilburg Coppersmith, 84, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, formerly of Emporium and York, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in her home.
Born September 28, 1928 in Emporium she was the daughter of John B. Tilburg and Catherine Whitmer Tilburg (Noll) and the stepdaughter of Lester H. Noll. On June 28, 1953 in Tidioute, she married Walter H. Coppersmith who died October 20, 2012.
She was graduate of Emporium High School, the Presbyterian Hospital Nursing Program affiliated with the Universityof Pennsylvania, and later conducted graduate studies at PennState University. A licensed registered nurse, she was employed as Head Surgical Nurse for bronchoscopy by Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia and as a school nurse by the Cameron County School District.
A resident of Emporium most of her life, Mrs. Coppersmith was member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Emporium, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star Emporium Chapter #101, and was also an accomplished vocalist and pianist. In 1983 she and her husband moved to York and in 2005 relocated to Nashville.
She is survived by: one son, Curtis J. “CJ” (Rachel) Coppersmith of Concord, Massachusetts; one daughter, Beth Ann Coppersmith of Nashville, Tennessee; two grandsons, Nathan Coppersmith of Oakland, California and Daniel Coppersmith of Concord; one granddaughter, Lauren Coppersmith of Nashville; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Coppersmith was predeceased by her husband, parents, and stepfather. Her father, John B. Tilburg, was killed in action during World War II.
The family will receive friends in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium on Friday, March 22 from 5-7 p.m. at which time an Easter Star Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Matt Ryan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
Following the service the family will receive friends at a reception in the Presbyterian Church hall across the street.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Lung Associationwww.lung.org/donate/ , St. Francis Animal Welfare Group www.sfawg.com/ , or Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Emporium, PA.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home.
