An Emporium man is in Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $25,000. bail after attacking another Emporium man, swerving his vehicle into an unmarked State Police car and threatening to shoot everyone at the Fuel On store in Emporium Borough at 10:50 am on Friday.
Trooper Bryan Goodrow of the Emporium station, who investigated, said the incident occurred as Russell Skillman, 52, of Emporium, PA, was exiting the Fuel On store at Rt. 120 and Route 46 in Emporium Borough, as James D. Grasser, 65, of Emporium, PA, was entering.
Skillman attacked Grasser by punching and kicking him, then telling Fuel On employees that he was going to get his automatic weapon and come back and kill everyone.
Skillman then fled the scene in his 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 heading East on Route 120.
On South Broad Street in Shippen Township, Cameron County, Skillman crossed into the northbound lane in front of Trooper David Surra in a marked State Police patrol vehicle, stopped, and began yelling out the window, then continued southbound on South Broad Street (SR3001).
Trooper Surra turned around and and attempted to stop Skillman, who refused to stop, and the pursuit continued south on Route 3001.
At about 11:16 am, as Sgt. Eric E. Wolfgang, 43, of Pennsylvania State Police in Emporium was driving north on Route 3001, Skillman swerved his vehicle into the path of, and struck Sgt. Wolfgang's unmarked State Police vehicle.
Skillman continued fleeing south on Route 3001 and was then stopped by Trooper Surra by legal intervention, after which Skillman exited his vehicle and refused to comply with orders from Troopers.
He was tased and taken into custody.
Skillman was charged with Aggravated Assault; Simple Assault; Fleeing or Attempting To Elude A Police Officer; and numerous traffic violations. He was arraigned before District Judge Alvin H. Brown in Emporium and committed to the Jefferson County Jail in Lieu of $25,000. bail.
