Mountain Paws Grooming & Boarding
We all love our dogs so very much and try to make the healthiest choices when taking care of them.
But there are many hidden dangers in the daily things we feed our dogs.
I recently went on an educational journey trying to figure out why our small dog has seizures a few times each week. Our boxer Bravo also died last year at age 2 of angiosarcoma. An article I found on the AKC web page gave me insight into so many dangerous chemicals used in our dogs food and treats. I went on to intently study more about these. This research led me into creating our own healthy treats with no artificial additives and only one ingredient. We will now be offering these treats for sale at Mountain Paws Grooming and Boarding. I know it's a long read but it's worth it...
Does your dog have itchy skin, irritated skin spots or rashes, seizures that don't seem to affect mental status, behavioral issues like hyperactivity, anxiety or aggression, GI upset, soft or runny bowel movements or a dull coat?
These symptoms are the most common side effects of the chemicals used in dog food and treats. Our commercial dog foods and treats are loaded with artificial colors, preservatives, filler ingredients, artificial sweeteners and animal byproducts. This shocked me to find out but did you know that they use the byproducts of anything collected at the slaughterhouse as a "leftover" to make dog food? This ranges from the leftover digest of an animal's stomach content to hooves, beaks, feathers and sadly even the byproducts of euthanized animals and diseases animals. It's no wonder we are seeing so many dogs with the symptoms above plus cancers at an all-time high. An example of a commonly used preservative, ethoxyquin is also used in pesticides. Side effects from this preservative alone include cancer, organ damage, anxiety, liver problems and nervous system damage. And this is allowed to be put in our dogs food and treats.
George and I decided to start making our own dog treats and switching at least our small dog to a more natural food. After much research we chose rabbit meat as our starting off point. Why rabbit meat? First, it's a novel protein meaning 99% of dogs have never eaten it before. We found sites where people who have show dogs and hunting dogs only feed rabbit because of the health benefits and connection to nature. If our dogs were still wild like wolves, their diet would consist of alot of rabbit meat. It's easily digested (including the fur) and hypoallergenic to dogs. Rabbit meat is prized for it's nutritional value. It's one of the few white meats that is rich is high quality proteins, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12, calcium and potassium. It's a lean meat that is low in cholesterol.
The rabbit meat that we use to make our dog jerky is sourced from organically raised rabbits so it is local and fresh. We take the meat and dehydrate it into jerky here, and package it up to sell to you. Ask for a sample at our grooming shop to make sure your dog loves it- so far we've had dog owners report that even picky pets love this jerky. It is fresh, healthy, has only one ingredient and nothing artificial. We sell this for a fraction of the price that you will find other rabbit treats on Chewy or Amazon. If you don't live local it's ok. I can ship your first order free and shipping is only $5 after that. Message or text to order or arrange for pick up.
I will not make any guarantees on your dogs health problems but I am thrilled to report that our dog Lola, who had seizures at least 3 times each week, has had one small seizure since we switched her to no chemical food and treats about 5 months ago. We want to see this type of healthy change for other dogs too! Let us know if we can help you!
