Ronald R. Tusing, 85, of Sizerville Road, Emporium, PA passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois, on Thursday (June 30, 2022). He was born February 4, 1937, in Arnold, PA, son of the late Elmer and Nellie (Cordier) Tusing.
Ron is survived by two sons, Doug Tusing (Regina), Ebensburg, PA; and David Tusing (Irene Medina Tusing), Austin, TX; six grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Brittany, Jamie, Victoria and Danielle; four great grandchildren: Bobby, Lillian, Amber and Chloe; sister, Saundra Teclaw; and his first wife, Betty Jane Tusing, Ebensburg, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald C. Tusing, a sister, Donna Widmer, and his second wife, Yvonne.
Ron, or “Mr. Tusing” to most, will forever be remembered as a gifted musician and keyboard player, a talent he exhibited at a very young age. He graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in music education, and accepted his first and only full-time job as a teacher in the Cameron County School District, where he taught vocal and instrumental music in the elementary and middle school grades for some forty years. He was most proud of initiating and hosting the first ever Elementary IU9 band festival in 1999. Outside of school, Ron taught many private organ, piano and keyboard lessons to students of all ages. He was the leader of the “Ron Tusing Trio”, which performed at hundreds of social functions in around the PA and New York area, and enjoyed participation in many jam sessions and coffee houses with “Father Paul and Friends”.
Through his teaching in the elementary grades, Ron remained truly young at heart. He cherished his relationship with his children and grandchildren, and more recently, his great-grandchildren. His quirky sense of humor kept everyone laughing and he was always ready for an impromptu piano recital at any time.
Ron was a member of the PA State Education Association, the NEA, the Elk-Cameron Retired Teachers, the Loyal Order of Moose, Cameron County Vets and the Emporium Knights of Columbus.
