One of Cameron County's best treasures. I highly encourage everyone to visit this season!

Come Visit Us at the Little Museum
Dear Editor,

The Little Museum in Sterling Run doors are opening for the season Saturday May28, 2022 from 1-4 PM. We have loads of improvements and updates over the past year, along with thousands of things inside for you to see. There is something for everyone of all ages.

Upon viewing the museum from the outside, you will notice the beautiful landscaping we had done last season. In addition to the landscaping while celebrating the museum's 50th anniversary last summer was the placement of a time capsule to be opened in 2071 honoring the museum's 100th anniversary.

As you walk down the walkway you will notice the refurbished flagpole with its new US flag donated by our local VFW. We mention this because those of us who attended the school actually raised, lowered and folded the flag every day. It was part of our education. If you don't know the meaning behind the way we fold the American Flag may we suggest you check it out in honor of this Memorial Day.

When you enter the front of the building you will make another discovery the new handrails recently installed by our President John Kautz, which have an historic background. The rails are original from the old Sylvania building, and imbedded within them are golden symbols depicting Sylvania. A real nice historical enhancement. As you enter the inside you will smell the fresh scent of a thorough cleaning a few weeks back by your dedicated Board of Directors. We have even added some new items that have been recently donated that you must see.

During the past two years since the onset of covid we have a huge influx of donations. Obviously, those who were housebound decided to clean out their closets etc. and discovered some treasures they wanted to share. We love it all, but are actually overwhelmed with keeping up, so much so that this year, we must ask for your help!

Many of us who volunteer at the History Center in Emporium and the Museum during the summer months just can't be two places at one time and need help especially this year to help man the Museum. We would like to remain open 3 days week like in the past on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 1-4 PM.

It's easy enough to do and a lot of fun. You not only get to meet some great visitors you get the chance to make some great discoveries yourself of our counties past. All we ask as you donate 3 hours one time this summer to help share our amazing history with others.

For those of you who live here and have never been to the museum this is the time to visit and or volunteer. Funny thing the majority of our visitors are from outside the area is it time for the locals come check us out.

We can be contacted by calling 814-486-0334 and leave a message. E-mail historycenter1@windstream.net, or check us out on Facebook. Better yet if you see one of the board members let them know.

All the best to our entire community this summer,

Cameron County Historical Society Board of Directors, John Kautz, Susan Hoy, Judy Armanini, Wendy Davis, Sandy Ford, Tom Gavolock, Bernie Oswald, Inez Jordan, Pat Martin, and Dianna Ball Museum Volunteer Coordinator.

Museum Hours at Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 1-4 PM
