Daniel P. Meringa, 46, of Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, formerly of Sunbury, PA died at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA on Friday morning (December 13, 2019) following a lengthy illness.
Dan was born November 9, 1973 in Bloomsburg, PA a son of
Betty McMasters Meringa, Emporium and the late Russell L. Meringa.
Daniel graduated from Shikellamy High School, Sunbury, PA, in the class of 1991 where he was involved with the band, as a drummer and track. After high school he joined the US Navy where he served on the USS Hunley in Norfolk, VA from Oct. 1991 to July 1994. He then joined the Army National Guard and served from Aug 1994 to Oct 2003 with Battery F TAB 109th FA, in York, PA. He served in active duty in support of Operation Endeavor/guard service in Germany and imminent danger pay area of Hungary, Bosnia in 1997. Daniel was diagnosed with Huntington's disease in the winter of 2002 and came home in the spring of 2003. After military service he attended Bloomsburg University and transferred to a college in Camden, NJ. He was a personal trainer and worked for a tile company while going to college. He lived in Sunbury, PA with his mother until 2010 when they moved to Emporium, PA to be near family so he could receive additional care. In April 2015 he was admitted to Sweden Valley Manor for the special care he needed.
Surviving in addition to his mother are several aunts and uncles including, Eileen Aikens, Maxine Heatherdale, Barbara (Gene) Shaw, Irvin (Tammy) McMasters, Jack (Donna) McMasters and Karen McMasters along with several cousins and friends from school and the military.
Dan was preceded in death by his father
There will be No Visitation.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA
on Saturday (December 28, 2019) at 2:00 PM with Master Sergeant (R) Scott Swank, Joseph Ranck and Ann Bliss Jackson friends of Dan, officiating. Military Funeral will follow.
