Gravel Race and All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ Set for September 28
The inaugural Sinnemahone Gravel Road Race which is a 55 mile bicycle race utilizing Elk and Susquehannock State Forests along with Sinnemahoning State Park and West Creek Rails Trails set for Saturday morning. Nearly 50 will start the event at 9 in the morning in downtown Emporium traveling 55 miles and returning to the finish line at Broad Street in Emporium. A second group will travel 14 miles on West Creek Rails Trails from Emporium to Truman and return.
The event is part of the Sinnemahone Triple Crown promoting water and land trails in Cameron County. “There are 10 participants on course to compete in all three events,” according to Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak. The chamber has undertaken the organizing of the April canoe, September bike and October trail run to encourage visitors to eat, sleep and stay in the region.
The 40 Maples area of Sinnemahoning State Park will provide spectators a viewing area of the racers. The event culminates with the All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ. Participants will receive a rib dinner from the competitors.
The All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ enters its 5th year. Alleghany Mountain Chapter of Nam Knights will kick off the event Friday night with a bonfire, music and an opportunity for people to mingle with the competitors. Saturday at 11am people will be able to purchase food from the competitors while listening to music. Desserts will be available from food trucks and vendors will be selling everything from arts and crafts to seasonings for those that like to grill or smoke.
